Pakistani rebar manufacturers slash prices in response to currency appreciation

In a noteworthy development in Pakistan, domestic rebar manufacturers have taken the decision to reduce prices by PKR 15,000 ($54) per ton, citing the recent appreciation of the Pakistani currency as the primary driver behind this move.

This price adjustment has brought down the range of domestic rebar prices to PKR 268,500 - 270,500 ($960-967) per ton EXW, a notable drop from the previous range of PKR 283,500- 285,500 ($931-937) per ton witnessed in the previous month.

The direct correlation between this price reduction and the strengthening of the Pakistani currency is evident. Notably, the Pakistani currency , dipping below PKR 280 against the USD for the first time in three months. This shift in the currency's value follows a remarkable 6.1% appreciation of the Pakistani currency against the USD in September.

With the exchange rate currently at 1 USD to 279.7 PKR, the decision by rebar manufacturers to cut prices reflects a strategic response to the evolving economic landscape in Pakistan. This development could have far-reaching implications on the construction and steel industries, impacting both consumers and businesses alike.
