OQGN partners with Hidrom to develop Oman's green hydrogen economy

OQ Gas Networks (OQGN) is partnering with Hidrom to support Oman's green hydrogen economy, aiming to produce 1 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030 and 8 million tons by 2050. The company aims to strengthen sustainable energy infrastructure through projects for the production and transportation of green hydrogen derivatives.

OQGN partners with Hidrom to develop Oman's green hydrogen economy

OQ Gas Networks (OQGN), a key infrastructure provider and the country's sole natural gas transportation operator, announced that it will continue its efforts to improve hydrogen pipeline infrastructure and reduce costs to support Oman's green hydrogen economy. To this end, OQGN said it is working with Hidrom, the company responsible for the development of the green hydrogen industry in Oman, on a master plan that aims to produce 1 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030 and 8 million tons by 2050. Hidrom is an organization that coordinates these projects and manages the development of infrastructure to support the production, storage and transport of green hydrogen. These projects aim to develop infrastructure for the transportation of green hydrogen and ensure that sustainable energy targets are met.

The company plans to establish a zone near the Port of Duqm where green hydrogen derivatives will be processed and exported. In this zone, products such as green ammonia and methanol will be produced, providing a significant advantage for use in the energy-intensive industries of iron and steel and aluminum. In these projects, OQGN is targeting economic scale advantages and efficient use of infrastructure to reduce transportation costs.

OQGN has a 4,235 km natural gas transportation network that supplies natural gas to industrial facilities across the country. The company said it will continue to pursue strategic projects to achieve its future growth targets and also aims to strengthen Oman's sustainable energy infrastructure by taking an active role in green energy projects.
