Odisha government prepares to establish ship recycling hub

The Odisha government is planning to set up a ship recycling hub near Paradip Port with a budget of Rs 4,000 crore (approximately USD 482 million). Additionally, Odisha plans to build two new ports in Inchuri and Bahuda through private sector collaboration. Each port will have a minimum handling capacity of 40 million tons, reinforcing Odisha's position in India’s maritime economy.

The state is also focusing on renewable energy investments, with efforts underway to establish hydrogen production facilities. Operations are expected to commence by the end of 2026. Furthermore, Odisha is working to attract investment in railway infrastructure to support the transportation of minerals and coal, critical to its industrial growth.

In the digitalization domain, Odisha is encouraging investments in data centers and global capability centers (GCCs). A 250-acre plot near Bhubaneswar has been designated for the development of an electronic city to support the state’s digital economy.

The Paradip Port Authority is anticipated to play a significant role in setting up a large shipbuilding and maintenance facility. This project will contribute to the growth of the maritime sector and provide a substantial boost to the region's industrial ecosystem.

Odisha’s comprehensive development plans underscore its goal to become a prominent industrial and maritime hub, attracting both domestic and international investments while driving economic growth.
