Mozambique on its way to becoming the new center of attraction for iron and steel

Mozambique's iron and steel industry is growing rapidly. Increasing infrastructure projects and government investments make this sector an attractive market for local and international suppliers. Despite rising steel prices, Mozambique offers significant opportunities, especially with its trade volume in Africa and increasing cooperation with Iran.

Mozambique on its way to becoming the new center of attraction for iron and steel

Mozambique's iron and steel industry is developing rapidly, driven by the country's infrastructure projects and the growth of the construction sector, while increasing demand and government investment make it an attractive market for both local and international suppliers. Today, the country's steel demand is met by imports from abroad, mainly from China, South Africa and India.

Increase in Mozambique's iron ore imports

Mozambique's iron ore imports reached USD 17.4 million in 2023, while this figure is expected to increase to USD 21.8 million by 2028. The country's mining sector continues to grow rapidly with increasing domestic and foreign investments. Mozambique is also noted for valuable resources such as rare earth minerals and gold.

Environmentally friendly mining and sustainable development

Mozambique attaches great importance to environmentally friendly practices and sustainable development projects. The country aims to create a mining infrastructure in line with the world in terms of carbon markets and green technologies. In the first nine months of 2024, gold production increased by 5%, while graphite production fell short of expected targets.
