Iran-based Mobarakeh Steel Company (MSC) announced that it has been ranked among the “Top 7 Sustainability Initiatives in the World” at the Steelie Awards 2025, organized by the World Steel Association (worldsteel). The award-winning project involves converting hot rolling mill sludge and cold rolling oxide dust into iron ore concentrate with a 69% grade, highlighting the company’s focus on recycling industrial waste and reintegrating it into production.
It was reported that the project has achieved annual savings of 125,000 m³ of freshwater, reduced CO₂ emissions by 1,291 tons, and created over 100 sustainable jobs. The initiative has been described as an exemplary model of “green steel production,” combining environmental responsibility with economic efficiency.
Another innovation from Mobarakeh Steel, the “Ergonomica AI” system, was also recognized by worldsteel as a model project in occupational health and safety. The AI-powered system analyzes employees’ postures through cameras to identify ergonomic risks. Without the need for wearable devices, the system has reduced musculoskeletal injuries by 42%, cut assessment time by 80%, and saved 5.5 billion IRR in costs.
The company’s carbon reduction policies have also earned it the “Global Climate Action Certificate” for 15 consecutive years, a distinction achieved by only 28 steel producers worldwide. Additionally, MSC announced that in September, it became the first steel producer in Iran to receive international certifications for greenhouse gas management and product carbon footprint.
In conclusion, Mobarakeh Steel’s innovative efforts—from waste recycling and energy efficiency to AI-supported workplace safety and carbon management—reinforce its leading role in the sustainable transformation of both Iran’s and the global steel industry.
