According to the statement made by the Ministry of Trade, a technical delegation headed by Mustafa Tuzcu, Deputy Minister of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye, held a series of contacts with the US Trade Representative (USTR). The delegation met with Deputy US Trade Representative Bryant Trick and other US officials to discuss policies to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
During the meetings, the effects of the new reciprocity-based trade policies of the US on world trade and the steps that can be taken to increase the trade volume between Türkiye and the US in this period were discussed. The parties evaluated the cooperation that can be done to ensure uninterrupted market access, to promote mutual investments and to improve the business environment in order to realize the USD 100 billion trade volume target.
New technologies, defense and energy at the center stage
The negotiations mutually confirmed the potential for cooperation not only in traditional sectors but also in strategic areas such as new technologies, innovation, artificial intelligence, cyber security and manufacturing. In particular, the defense and energy sectors stood out as two important areas where cooperation is rapidly deepening.
In addition, proposals to facilitate trade and improve the conditions for doing business between the two countries were discussed. The statement emphasized that the parties reiterated their commitment to the development of mutual trade and investment opportunities in all sectors.
Common priority: Balanced trade and investment promotion
In the statement of the Ministry of Trade, it was stated that the common priority in the new period is the balanced increase in trade and promotion of investments between the two countries. During the talks, it was agreed that the high cooperation potential should be used effectively, the negative effects that may arise from the practices should be minimized and this process should proceed in a sustainable framework.
At the end of the statement, it was emphasized that contacts between Türkiye and the US will continue to increase. It was stated that existing opportunities will be evaluated and necessary steps will be taken to improve the conditions for Turkish companies to enter the US market.
