According to the Steel Industry Association in Mexico, Canacero, wire rod production and sales experienced a y-o-y decline in December 2023.
Wire rod production decreased by 20%
In December 2023, the production of wire rod in Mexico reached approximately 178,000 tons, marking a decrease of roughly 20% compared to the previous year. This output represents the second-lowest level recorded in the past two years.
Concurrently, wire rod consumption hit its lowest point in the past 24 months, totaling 184,000 tons and declining by approximately 12% y-o- y. In comparison to 2022, Mexico's annual production and sales in 2023 decreased by 13.8% and 1.7%, respectively.
