Maru Metall has invested in Voortman Steel Machinery’s V807 robotic profile processing line for use at its Ardu plant. The investment aims to increase automation in the plant’s structural steel profile processing operations and enable multiple processing activities to be carried out within a single production flow.
The new V807 line can perform operations on structural steel profiles including complex end cuts, notches, holes, slotted holes, bevels and assembly markings. This enables the geometry created during the design stage to be transferred digitally into production, allowing components to be sent to assembly with the required geometry and markings already completed.
Kaltenbach and Voortman technologies to be used together
Maru Metall’s existing Kaltenbach automatic drilling and sawing center will continue to be used for high-precision drilling and cutting of structural steel profiles.
The V807 robotic processing line will be deployed primarily for creating complex geometries and carrying out various profile processing operations. This will allow the production team to select the most suitable processing method for each component and benefit from the different capabilities of the Kaltenbach and Voortman systems.
In the new production flow, the geometry from the design model will be transferred directly into the manufacturing process, with processed components reaching assembly with the required cuts, holes and markings already completed.
Components up to 15 meters can be processed
At Maru Metall’s Ardu plant, components up to 15 meters in length and more than 1 meter in diameter can be processed. The main profile types handled at the facility include HEA, HEB, IPE, UPE, UNP, RHS, SHS, L profiles and flat bars.
The company expects the V807 investment to help shorten production processes, improve consistency in quality and provide greater geometric flexibility in structural steel designs.
The investment in the Voortman V807 robotic profile processing line was co-financed by the European Union under the Cohesion Fund.
