Contributing to sustainability in the fields of mining and minerals and continuing its work in this regard, LKAB has established a joint venture with Energiron technologies.
Lulea, operated by HYBRIT Project AB, is expected to work in fossil-free steel production with operations including SSAB and Vattenfall. 1.35mt of fossil-free production with the capacity to produce DRI is envisioned to be a groundbreaking innovation in the field.
Electric process heaters are also expected to produce fossil-free steel by heating the process gas using green electrical energy, eliminating heater carbon emissions.
The importance of DRI in SSAB's efforts to produce fossil-free steel is emphasized, while hydrogen-based iron ore reduction is expected to bring innovation to the industry.
