Liberty Steel will supply coking coal from Poland by train to Dunaferr, which is suffering from raw material shortage, at the request of the Hungarian authorities.
With the coal sent by Liberty Steel to the Hungarian steel mill Dunaferr, it is aimed to prevent the coke batteries of the facility from shutting down.
Dunaferr had to shut down two blast furnaces in August and September 2022 due to lack of funds.
Liberty Steel discussed a potential acquisition with Dunaferr in 2021, but lost interest in Dunaferr after becoming aware of the company's financial woes.
