Due to the weather conditions in the Black Sea and the decrease in the water level of the Danube, it was reported that the only blast furnace No. 5 at the Liberty Galati plant was shut down in 2023.
The furnace was restarted some time later, but in January 2024 it was shut down again due to a lack of raw materials.
Recently, Galati reported that the demand for heavy plate and HRC has increased, while at the same time blast furnace No. 5 was restarted. It is reported that they plan to continue rolling, including the plants in the Czech Republic and Hungary, once the furnace reaches the desired capacity level, the capacity of which is planned to be increased.
