Kyrgyzstan has imposed a six-month ban on the export of scrap and ingots

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan has adopted a decision to suspend exports of metal scrap and metal ingots intended for remelting for a period of six months.

The ban will enter into force three days after the official decision is published and will cover shipments of scrap metal and metal ingots intended for remelting.

According to the government, the measure was introduced to protect domestic processing facilities and stabilize the raw material market within the country. Authorities also stated that the move aims to prevent uncontrolled exports of strategically important raw materials.

It was noted that the decision is in line with the provisions of the Eurasian Economic Union agreement. Meanwhile, Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Economy and Commerce is required to notify the World Trade Organization and the Eurasian Economic Commission of the ban within three days.

In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan will send the same notification to the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The ban entered into force in February 2026 and will remain valid until August 2026. As part of the measure, the State Customs Service and the Border Service of Kyrgyzstan have been instructed to tighten customs and border controls. Authorities are expected to strengthen inspections to prevent the illegal export of scrap metal from the country.
