KARDEMİR becomes a supplier to Algerian Railways

Kardemir Karabük Iron and Steel Industry and Trade Inc. (KARDEMİR) has successfully won the international railway wheel supply tender organized by Algeria’s national railway operator, Société Nationale des Transports Ferroviaires (SNTF).

Under the tender, the first purchase agreement was executed on July 21, 2026, as part of a railway wheel supply program worth approximately USD 27 million. The company stated that this contract represents the highest-value export agreement signed by KARDEMİR in the past five years.

Five-year strategic partnership

The agreement establishes a five-year long-term supply partnership between KARDEMİR and SNTF. Within this framework, Algeria’s railway wheel requirements will be supplied by KARDEMİR through periodic orders, with deliveries to be made in batches.

In its statement, the company emphasized that being included in the long-term procurement program of a national railway operator is a significant indicator of the international recognition of KARDEMİR’s products and the trust placed in the company.

KARDEMİR strengthens its position in the railway industry

Founded in 1937 as Türkiye’s first integrated iron and steel plant, KARDEMİR is now among the limited number of global manufacturers capable of producing railway wheels.

The company is the only manufacturer in Türkiye and its region capable of producing both rails and railway wheels at the same production facility, while carrying out all production processes in-house, from raw material procurement to the final product.

It was also stated that this integrated production structure helps maintain high quality standards and strengthens Türkiye’s strategic capacity in the railway industry.

With this new export agreement, KARDEMİR aims to further expand its presence in international markets, achieve sustainable growth through long-term partnerships, and bring Türkiye’s manufacturing strength to different regions around the world.
