JSW Energy has commissioned India’s largest green hydrogen production facility

JSW Energy has commissioned India’s first and largest green hydrogen production facility, marking a major milestone in the country’s clean energy transition.

JSW Energy has commissioned India’s largest green hydrogen production facility

The project, developed under phase I of the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, is located in Karnataka’s Vijayanagar region, right next to the JSW Steel plant. This strategic location will enable the direct supply of green hydrogen to the DRI unit, which plays a critical role in low-carbon steel production.

Under the seven-year offtake agreement signed with JSW Steel, the facility will produce 3,800 tons of green hydrogen and 30,000 tons of green oxygen annually. This output forms part of the 6,800 TPA green hydrogen capacity allocated to the company under the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) “Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT)” program.

In addition, JSW Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with JSW Steel for the phased supply of 85,000–90,000 TPA of green hydrogen and 720,000 TPA of green oxygen by 2030. This comprehensive collaboration is regarded as a critical step toward reducing carbon emissions in the steel sector and expanding green production.

JSW Energy’s new facility aligns with the company’s sustainability vision and with India’s goal of producing approximately 5 million tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030. The project also further reinforces JSW Energy’s leading role in the country’s clean energy transition.
