Jindal Steel Sohar announced that it has been recognised by Danieli as one of the top-performing plants. The company’s Sohar facility in Oman set a world record by safely producing 235,112 tons of liquid steel in a single month at its 220-ton Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). This production level indicates that the plant’s annual cast steel capacity could exceed 2.5 million tons.
Originally supplied by Danieli in 2014, the EAF operates with an average charge mix of 61% hot DRI, 37% cold DRI and 2% HBI. The plant achieved a productivity level of 324 tons per hour, while power consumption for high-quality billet production was recorded at 493 kWh per ton.
The furnace was recently upgraded with Danieli’s Q-MELT adaptive process control system. Following the upgrade, equipment availability reached 96.5%, including planned weekly shutdowns, unplanned outages and process-related delays.
It was stated that these results reflect Jindal Steel Sohar’s commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement. The achievement highlights how innovation, technical expertise and strong collaboration can translate into sustainable long-term performance.
