Opening the meeting, BASİFED Chairman Mehmet Ali Kasalı said that not only the private sector and NGOs but also the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality are working on clean energy and that Izmir has a great potential in this sense.
"Wind energy comes first"
Eyüp Sevimli, BASİFED Board Member, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Izmir Free Zone (İZBAŞ) and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EGE DERIDER, evaluated the level Izmir has reached in renewable energy, especially wind energy. Sevimli said, "When we consider İzmir together with Manisa and Balıkesir, one of the three wind power plants in our country is located in this triangle. Turkey's and Europe's largest wind turbine blade factory also continues its production in İZBAŞ."
Noting that Izmir has a great potential not only in wind and solar energy but also in geothermal energy, Sevimli reminded that Izmir is heated with geothermal energy, which is a domestic and renewable resource.
"The renewable energy sector has the potential to grow by 64 percent in 5 years"
Sibel Zorlu, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of ESİAD, said that they are working on green consensus, climate change, sustainability and digitalization as ESİAD and that they have a renewable energy sector that will grow 64 percent in 5 years. Emphasizing that in 2030 Izmir aims to become climate neutral, Zorlu said, "Carbon emission is one of the most important issues in the green consensus. European countries are moving very fast towards the 2053 European neutrality target. As Izmir, we have taken a good step in these topics, and we need to follow it up."
