According to data compiled by SteelRadar from the Federacciai, crude steel production in İtalya reached 1.7 million tonnes in January, up 1.6% y-o-y.
Federacciai reported that total crude steel production for full-year 2025 amounted to 20.7 million tonnes, marking a 3.7% increase compared with the previous year. After closing 2025 with growth, the sector maintained its positive trend in the first month of 2026.
Strong increase in long products
Hot-rolled long products posted a notable performance in January. Long product output rose 13.2% y-o-y to 978,000 tonnes. For full-year 2025, long product production totaled 12.3 million tonnes, up 5.5%.
Decline in flat products
By contrast, the hot-rolled flat products segment recorded a decline in January. Flat product output fell 1.8% y-o-y to 774,000 tonnes. For full-year 2025, flat product production increased 4.0% to 9.0 million tonnes.
The data indicate that while long products saw strong growth and flat products experienced a limited decline in the first month of 2026, overall crude steel production continued to expand moderately.
