According to the company statement, the agreement covers the expansion of slag processing operations at Jajpur, located in India’s Odisha state.
The new contract marks an extension of the collaboration that began between the two companies in 2015. As part of the deal, an additional wet grinding plant will be built to support Jindal Stainless’s stainless steel operations. The facility, to be operated by Harsco Environmental, is said to be the only one of its kind in India.
The new plant will create 140 jobs
The investment is expected to generate around 140 new jobs in the region. In addition, the existing stainless steel slag processing agreement has been extended for another ten years, bringing the partnership’s duration to 2038.
Commenting on the deal, Harsco Environmental President Christophe Reitemeier stated that “this partnership represents a significant step forward in our shared journey to transform the stainless steel industry with sustainable solutions.”
Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel manufacturer, continues to expand its production capacity to meet growing demand. The company’s consolidated revenue for the 2025 fiscal year reached INR 40,182 crore (approximately USD 4.75 billion).
Jindal Stainless Managing Director Abhyuday Jindal emphasized that the new facility “will enhance environmental sustainability by enabling profitable slag utilization and create new opportunities within the communities where we operate.”
Throughout the current contract period, Harsco Environmental has processed more than five million tons of slag for Jindal Stainless and aims to double its business volume in India by 2028.
Meanwhile, Harsco Environmental recently announced its re-entry into the Slovak market. The company signed a five-year briquetting agreement with Belgian firm Carmeuse and a three-year scrap cleaning contract with US Steel Košice. These two agreements are seen as an important step in strengthening the company’s presence in the European market.
