Zimbabwe moves into steel sector

Zimbabwe is pursuing strategies to promote local industrial development, such as building steel mills, protecting local food security by producing agricultural products and producing affordable products for local people.

At the 64th Zimbabwe International Trade Fair, Zimbabwe's local products in agriculture, construction, mining and manufacturing were exhibited. Held in Bravayo, the country's second largest city, the fair welcomed exhibitors from more than 20 countries around the world. At the entrance to the exhibition, the phrase "the largest steel mill in sub-Saharan Africa" attracted attention. On November 8, 2023, a Zimbabwean exhibitor displayed handicrafts at the 6th CIIE National Exhibition Hall.

This is a steel plant invested in and built by Dingsen Steel Company, a subsidiary of China Qingshan Holdings Group in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwean President Mnangaguva visited this steel plant in March and it was announced that work will continue at the steel plant. It is known that the factory will start production in June this year with an annual production capacity of 600 thousand tons. In addition to meeting Zimbabwe's steel demand, it is said that in the future it will be exported to other regions through the Port of Beira in Mozambique.
