World steel production on the increase: 63 countries report 6.6% growth

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) evaluated the world crude steel production of 63 countries in July 2023. According to the data, compared to the same period last year, steel production increased by 6.6% to 158.5 million tons.

Changes in Steel Production by Region:

- Africa produced 1.4 million tons of steel in July 2023, up 26.1%.
- Asia and Oceania produced 119.9 million tons of steel, up 9.1%.
- The European Union (27) produced 10.3 million tons of steel, down 7.1%.
- Other European countries produced 3.6 million tons of steel, up 5.1%.
- Steel production in the Middle East decreased by 3.9% to 3.1 million tons.
- North America produced 9.4 million tons of steel, down 1.2%.
- Russia and other CIS countries and Ukraine produced 7.4 million tons of steel, up 9.3%.
- Steel production in South America decreased by 8.4% to 3.4 million tons.

Countries accounting for around 97% of total world crude steel production in 2022:

- Africa: Egypt, Libya, South Africa, Tunisia
- Asia and Oceania: Australia, China, India, Japan, Mongolia, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Korea, Taiwan (China), Thailand, Vietnam
- European Union (27)
- Europe, Other: Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, Turkey, United Kingdom
- Middle East: Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates
- North America: Canada, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, United States of America
- Russia and other CIS + Ukraine: Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Ukraine
- South America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, Venezuela

Featured Countries in Steel Production:

- China produced 90.8 million tons of steel in July 2023, up 11.5%.
- India increased its production by 14.3% to 11.5 million tons of steel.
- Japan produced 7.4 million tons of steel, up 0.9%.
- The United States produced 6.9 million tons of steel, up 0.5%.
- Russia produced 6.3 million tons of steel, up 5.8%.
- South Korea produced 5.7 million tons of steel, down 9.0%.
- Germany produced 3.0 million tons of steel, down 0.5%.
- Turkey increased its production by 6.4% to 2.9 million tons of steel.
- Brazil produced 2.7 million tons of steel, down 4.7%.
- Iran produced 2.0 million tons of steel, down 1.5%.
