While the Türkiye rebar market remains sluggish due to weak demand in both export and domestic segments, eyes are on September for a potential recovery.
The Türkiye rebar market continues to exhibit a sluggish trend due to weak demand in both domestic and international markets. Most international buyers remain silent, while customers in the Middle East are acting cautiously due to regional geopolitical concerns. However, the upcoming start of the new quota period in the European Union on October 1 has raised expectations that European buyers may return to the market in the coming weeks. This could bring partial recovery prospects for exports.
Türkiye’s rebar export offers are currently in the range of $530–540/ton FOB. However, despite this price range, limited buying interest is keeping trade volumes low.
In the domestic market, prices vary regionally. In the İzmir region, prices have declined to as low as $530/ton, while in the Marmara region, ex-works prices remain stable around $555/ton. Although İçdaş’s official price stands at $560/ton, actual transaction levels are reported around $535/ton. In İskenderun, one producer reduced its forward sales price by $5/ton to $555/ton, while other mills in the region are offering within the $530–535/ton range.
Kardemir’s sale of a total of 27,500 tons at $537/ton has stood out as one of the few notable transactions during this quiet period. However, the general market sentiment suggests that most of the summer will pass with limited activity and flat price movements.
Industry sources expect a possible recovery to start as of September. In this context, hopes are focused on a revival in domestic demand and renewed export interest, particularly from European buyers.
