Vietnam became Asia's largest scrap importer last December. Total scrap imports from several major Asian importing countries rose to about 158,000 tons in December last year, compared to about 60,000 tons in the previous month.
In December of last year, Vietnam turned to buying scrap from the United States, as Japanese scrap prices lost competitiveness due to the need for new and urgent replenishment of stocks.
According to statistics, Vietnam imported about 90,000 tons of Western American scrap in December 2022.
