The Mega Hub will initially receive pellets from Vale, and in the future an iron ore briquette plant may be located on the site to provide the direct reduction route in the industrial complex, the company said.
Vale has already started building mega-hubs (industrial complexes for the production of low carbon steel products) in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Oman.
The focus will be on the use of the direct reduction route to produce HBI.
Both companies will seek investors and customers to build and operate the direct reduction plant, which will produce HBI with near-zero carbon emissions using natural gas that will be available at the port, with the possibility of eventually converting to green hydrogen.
