US wire rod imports experience a 22.2% decline in November

The latest report from the U.S. Department of Commerce's final census reveals a notable downturn in U.S. wire rod imports for the month of November 2023.

 US wire rod imports experience a 22.2% decline in November

The data indicates a total of 69,199 tons, reflecting a significant 22.2% decrease from October figures. Despite this month-over-month decline, there is a positive 8.6% increase when compared to the same period in 2022.

In terms of value, November 2023 witnessed wire rod imports amounting to $60.6 million, a notable shift from the $73.9 million reported in October. However, this figure represents an improvement from the $72.6 million recorded in November 2022.

Canada stands out as the primary contributor to U.S. wire rod imports in November, providing 28,701 tons. This marks a decline from October's 37,243 tons but reflects a substantial increase from the 20,033 tons reported in November 2022. Other significant sources of wire rod imports during November include Ukraine with 19,999 tons, Japan with 7,888 tons, Germany with 4,064 tons, and Brazil with 3,966 tons. The dynamics of these imports shed light on the evolving trends within the industry and the varying contributions from key international partners.
