According to data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the capacity utilization rate reached 81.3% during the week. In the corresponding week of the previous year, crude steel production totaled 1.782 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 79.3%.
On a week-on-week basis, production recorded a modest increase. Output rose by 0.3% from 1.872 million net tons in the week ending May 30, 2026, to 1.877 million net tons in the week ending June 6, 2026. During the same period, the capacity utilization rate increased from 81.1% to 81.3%.
As of June 6, 2026, adjusted year-to-date U.S. crude steel production reached 40.690 million net tons, representing a 6.4% increase compared to 38.243 million net tons produced during the same period last year. The year-to-date capacity utilization rate averaged 78.5%, up from 76.8% a year earlier.
By region, production during the reported week totaled 140,000 net tons in the Northeast, 502,000 net tons in the Great Lakes region, 318,000 net tons in the Midwest, 844,000 net tons in the South, and 73,000 net tons in the West. As a result, total weekly crude steel production reached 1.877 million net tons.
