U.S. weekly crude steel production reaches 1.77 million net tons

For the week ending August 16, U.S. crude steel production increased 2.8% year-on-year.

U.S. weekly crude steel production reaches 1.77 million net tons

According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), U.S. crude steel output for the week ending August 16, 2025, was 1,774,000 net tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 78.3%. In the same week last year, production was 1,726,000 net tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 77.7%, marking a 2.8% annual increase for the current week.

Meanwhile, during the week ending August 9, 2025, crude steel production was 1,800,000 net tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 79.5%. Compared to this, the week ending August 16, 2025, showed a 1.4% decrease from the previous week.

Year-to-date adjusted crude steel production through August 16, 2025, totaled 55,920,000 net tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 76.6%, up 1.3% compared to 55,219,000 net tons and 76.4% capacity utilization during the same period last year.

Regionally, production for the week was 118,000 net tons in the Northeast, 554,000 net tons in the Great Lakes region, 237,000 net tons in the Midwest, 795,000 net tons in the South, and 70,000 net tons in the West.
