According to the US Department of Commerce, total imports of steel products for consumption decreased by 2 percent in 2022 compared to 2021, to 28.01 million metric tons (t).
Some products recorded disproportionate decreases. Billet and slab imports decreased by 36% to 5.05 million tons, a decrease of more than 2.8 million tons.
HRC imports decreased by 19% to 2.25 million tons, while hot dipped galvanized (HDG) coil imports decreased by 4.7% to 2.54 million tons.
Cold rolled coil imports increased by 22% to 1.97 million tons.
