According to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), U.S. domestic raw steel production reached 1.754 million net tons in the week ending September 20, 2025. The capacity utilization rate was recorded at 77.4%. In the same week last year, production was 1.657 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 74.6%. These figures indicate a 5.9% increase in production on a yearly basis.
Meanwhile, in the previous week ending September 13, production stood at 1.764 million net tons with a capacity utilization rate of 77.9%, marking a 0.6% decline week-on-week.
From the beginning of the year through September 20, adjusted raw steel production totaled 64.979 million net tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 77.0%. During the same period last year, production was 63.652 million net tons with a 76.2% capacity utilization rate. This reflects a 2.1% increase in year-to-date production.
In terms of regional distribution, production for the referenced week was recorded at 114,000 net tons in the Northeast, 548,000 in the Great Lakes region, 239,000 in the Midwest, 780,000 in the South, and 73,000 in the West, for a total of 1.754 million net tons.
