Ukrzaliznytsia will procure an additional 10,000 tons of rails from Voestalpine

Ukrzaliznytsia and the Austrian manufacturer Voestalpine Rail Technology GmbH have agreed on the supply of an additional 10,000 tons of rails for the comprehensive repair of an additional 80 kilometers of railway track.

Ukrzaliznytsia will procure an additional 10,000 tons of rails from Voestalpine

The company stated that this additional contract was made possible through funds saved thanks to the expected price reductions, and that the agreement was signed following successful tender outcomes.

Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister for Communities and Territorial Development, Oleksiy Kuleba, noted that the project is aimed at ensuring the resilience of logistics despite daily shelling and Russia’s attempts to disrupt internal transport links.

The procurement is being carried out under the “Emergency Support to Ukrainian Railways” project funded by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). With this agreement, the total supply volume under the contract reaches approximately 46,000 tons, enabling the construction and repair of 358 kilometers of railway track. Deliveries of the new batch of rails are expected to begin around May 2026, following the completion of shipments from the main suppliers.

The signing ceremony was attended by Ukraine’s Deputy Minister for Communities and Territorial Development Oleksiy Balesta, Ukrzaliznytsia CEO Oleksandr Pertsovsky, EBRD Deputy Head of the Ukraine Resident Office Mark Magaletsky, Voestalpine General Manager Nadia Jungwirth, and Regional Sales Manager Anna Barukhovich.

The additional rail supply will enable major repairs, increase train speeds, and strengthen the continuity of the transportation network. This development is considered critically important for the stability of freight trade and the advancement of Ukraine’s infrastructure.
