According to Ukrmetallurgprom data for the first five months of 2024, consumption of steel products in Ukraine decreased by 3.6% year-on-year to 1.36 million tonnes.
Imports of steel products increased by 6.7% to 472.9 thousand tonnes, accounting for 34.7% of the domestic market. Flat-rolled products accounted for the bulk of imports (82.07 %).
Ukrainian metal producers produced 2.57 million tonnes of rolled products during the five months, which is 29.6% more than last year. 1.68 million tonnes of steel products were exported, up 73.9% year-on-year. The domestic market received 888,000 tonnes of rolled and semi-finished products, down 12.6% year-on-year. The share of exports in total production rose to 65.4% from 48.7% a year earlier.
The share of flat rolled products in 5-month export shipments rose to 40.3% from 30.7% in the previous year. The share of long products in export shipments decreased from 20.3 % to 12.9 %.
