The UK government has launched consultations on a Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and other carbon leakage reduction measures.
It has been announced that the consultation will take place until 22 June and will be open to interested parties in the UK and internationally.
Proposed measures included mandatory product standards and embodied emissions reporting.
UK Steel's managing director, Gareth Stace, welcomed the consultation and called for a level playing field where imported and locally produced steel face similar carbon costs. Stace also warned of a potentially damaging trade barrier with the EU, Britain's largest trading partner, if the country does not implement its own CBAM.
