Uğur Dalbeler drew attention to the strength of the Turkish steel industry in the world at Steel Summit 2026

The 2nd International Steel Industry and Global Markets Summit (Steel Summit 2026) brought together representatives of the global iron and steel industry in Çeşme, İzmir.

Uğur Dalbeler drew attention to the strength of the Turkish steel industry in the world at Steel Summit 2026

Organized by SteelRadar and held for the second time this year, the summit took place at Swissôtel Resort & Spa in Çeşme, İzmir. The three-day event attracted significant interest from industry players, with numerous sector representatives attending from 25 different countries around the world.

Uğur Dalbeler: “Steel is the most fundamental material of civilization”

Addressing participants during the opening session of the summit, Chairman of the Steel Exporters’ Association Uğur Dalbeler stated that throughout his professional career, he has always been proud to be a part of the iron and steel industry.

Emphasizing that steel lies at the center of all elements referred to today as civilization, Dalbeler pointed out that humanity has been able to meet vital needs such as shelter, transportation, energy, and infrastructure thanks to this material. Dalbeler stated that steel production is not only the manufacturing of a highly important material, but also an extremely difficult craft to perform, adding that despite all challenges, the achievements attained should be a source of pride.

Expressing that Türkiye has made tremendous progress in the steel industry on a global scale, Dalbeler noted that the country is currently the world’s seventh-largest steel producer and at the same time the fifth-largest steel exporter.

“We are used to living with uncertainty in this geography”

Dalbeler stated that unpredictability and uncertainty in global markets are frequently highlighted at international conferences, adding that Türkiye, due to the geography it is located in, is not unfamiliar with such dynamics. Explaining that sector representatives start each day with a new scenario and a new dynamic, Dalbeler noted that existing problems may simultaneously bring new opportunities, and in this context, he believes the future of the Turkish steel industry will always be more positive.

Recalling that over the past 26 years the sector has shown significant development and succeeded in becoming one of the largest producers in strategic areas, Dalbeler nevertheless emphasized that serious problems and transformations are taking place on a global scale.

Pointing out that the old trade order in the world has been left behind and that it has become increasingly difficult to speak of global unity, Dalbeler stated that the world is entering a period in which every country is focused on protecting its own commercial sphere in line with its own interests. Chairman of the Steel Exporters’ Association Uğur Dalbeler added that conferences organized in such a protectionist and challenging climate provide strategic roadmaps regarding where and how the sector will position itself in the future and offer great benefits to the industry.
