In a significant step demonstrating increased scrutiny of global trade practices, the United Arab Emirates has launched an official anti-dumping investigation into imports of certain steel profiles originating from China.
The probe targets U-, I-, and H-beams, along with alloy steel angles (HS codes 721631, 721632, 721633, and 722870), widely used in construction and infrastructure projects.
Emirates Steel alleges that Chinese exporters are selling these steel products below fair market value, causing significant harm to the domestic industry through falling prices, shrinking profits, and lost market share. The investigation will determine whether dumping has occurred and if it has materially injured local production.
While UAE authorities reaffirm their commitment to free and fair trade under WTO rules, the move reflects growing support for protecting strategic national industries amid rising infrastructure demand. Importers caution that any resulting duties could affect project costs, but no measures will be imposed until the probe concludes—likely within 12 months.
