According to the results of TÜİK's Household Labor Force Survey, the number of unemployed people aged 15 and over decreased by 69 thousand people to 2 million 972 thousand in May. While the unemployment rate for men was calculated as 6.5%, this rate was measured as 11.9% for women.
Employment growth continues
In May, the number of employed people increased by 100 thousand to 32 million 519 thousand. In parallel with this, the employment rate increased to 49 percent. While the employment rate was 66.3% for males, it was realized as 32.2% for females.
Labor force participation rate remained unchanged
While total labor force increased by 31 thousand people to 35 million 491 thousand people, labor force participation rate remained unchanged at 53.5%. This rate was 70.9% for men and 36.5% for women.
Improvement in youth unemployment
Unemployment rate among young people aged 15-24 decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 15.4%. Unemployment in this age group was estimated as 11% for men and 23.5% for women.
Working time increased
In May, the average weekly actual working hours of employees increased by 0.6 hours compared to the previous month and reached 42.7 hours.
Idle labor force declined
The broadly defined labor force (idle labor force) rate, which includes time-dependent underemployment, potential labor force and unemployed, decreased to 31%. This rate decreased by 1.1 percentage points compared to the previous month. The combined rate of underemployment and unemployed was 20.7%, while the combined rate of unemployed and potential labor force was recorded as 20.2%.
