Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced foreign trade data for April 2025. According to provisional data created within the scope of the general trade system in cooperation with TÜİK and the Ministry of Commerce, exports in April increased by 7.8% to USD 20 billion 801 million, while imports increased by 12.7% to USD 32 billion 893 million. This figure marked the highest import level in the last 23 months.
The foreign trade deficit increased by 22.3%, reaching USD 12 billion 92 million. Thus, the highest monthly foreign trade deficit since July 2023 was recorded. In April, the ratio of exports to imports decreased from 66.1% to 63.2% compared to the same period last year.
In the January-April period, exports increased by 3.7% and imports by 6.6%
In the first four months of the year, exports increased by 3.7% to USD 86 billion 113 million and imports increased by 6.6% to USD 120 billion 699 million.
Double-digit increases in imports and exports excluding energy and gold
Foreign trade data excluding energy products and non-monetary gold also witnessed remarkable increases. In April, exports excluding energy and gold increased by 11.1% to USD 19 billion 253 million, while imports in the same items increased by 13.5% to USD 25 billion 420 million. In this context, foreign trade deficit was USD 6 billion 166 million. Total foreign trade volume increased by 12.5% to USD 44 billion 673 million. The ratio of exports to imports in this item was realized as 75.7%.
Germany ranks first in exports, China ranks first in imports
Germany was the country to which Tü rkiye USD 769 million , followed by the United Kingdom ( USD 1.35 billion), the United States (USD 1.15 billion), Italy (USD 1.046 billion) and France (USD 851 million). Exports to these five countries accounted for 29.6% of total exports.
In imports, China ranked first with USD 4 billion 177 million. China was followed by Russia ( USD 3.582 billion), Germany (USD 2.773 billion), Switzerland (USD 1.775 billion) and Italy (USD 1.537 billion). Imports from these five countries accounted for 42.1 % of total imports.
Looking at the January-April period in general, Germany continued to be Türkiye's largest trading partner in exports and China in imports.
