Türkiye's first floating natural gas production platform modernized at İÇDAŞ

The modernization process of the floating natural gas production platform Osman Gazi, one of the symbolic projects of Türkiye's domestic and national energy vision, has been successfully completed.

Türkiye's first floating natural gas production platform modernized at İÇDAŞ

The project, which was carried out at İÇDAŞ Dry Dock Facilities in Çanakkale, demonstrated the state of the art not only in the field of energy, but also in Türkiye's heavy industry, shipyard and engineering capacity.

The work carried out at İÇDAŞ Dry Dock Facilities, which has the largest dry dock infrastructure in the Mediterranean basin, was completed in just 8 months. Within the scope of modernization, 1000 tons of steel and 900 tons of pipes were processed and a new system infrastructure was added to the platform. In addition, scaffolding with a capacity of 600 thousand cubic meters was built, while blasting and painting processes were applied on an area of 100 thousand square meters. A total of 8 thousand tons of modules were dismantled throughout the project.

The giant platform, which is 298.5 meters long, 56 meters wide and 29.5 meters deep, was made floating at the end of the modernization process. The project, which was carried out with 17 cranes with a total lifting capacity of 2,700 tons, successfully completed the integration of old systems with new generation technologies, structural reinforcement steps and energy systems optimization.

Ready for a 20-year mission in the Black Sea

Osman Gazi Floating Production Platform, an important milestone in Türkiye's goal of energy independence, is preparing to start natural gas production in the Black Sea in mid-2026. With a capacity of 140 personnel, the platform will continue natural gas production in the region for 20 years.

Osman Gazi draws attention with its 10.5 million cubic meters of natural gas processing and 10 million cubic meters of gas transfer capacity per day. With this capacity, the current natural gas production in the Black Sea will double and the natural gas needs of approximately 8 million households across Tür iyewill be met from the Black Sea.

While this important project stands out as one of the concrete steps in Türkiye's goal of reducing its dependence on foreign energy, it has once again demonstrated the level of domestic engineering and production power.
