According to the information compiled by SteelRadar analysts from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) foreign trade data, Türkiye's cold rolled coil (CRC) imports in January 2024 decreased by 39.62% compared to the same month of the previous year, decreasing to 41,774 tons. This figure was 69,189 tons in January 2023.
It decreased by 25.65% compared to the previous month, December 2023. In December, this figure was 56,169 tons.
While 11,725 tons were imported from China, which is one of the countries from which Turkey imports the most CRC, in January, this figure showed a significant increase compared to the previous year. In January 2023, 415 tons were imported. While the most imports at that time were from South Korea with 36,589 tons, South Korea fell to fourth place in the import rankings in January 2024.
Imports from Spain, which ranks second, increased by 264%, from 1,897 tons to 6,910 tons. Imports from Russia decreased. While 21,294 tons of CRC were imported in January 2023, this figure decreased by 68.3% to 6,753 tons in the same period of this year. The money transfer problem between Russia and Türkiye is cited as one of the reasons for this situation.
Imports from the Netherlands, which ranks fifth, increased by 601% compared to the said period, rising from 545 tons to 3,828 tons. The country that experienced the biggest decrease in import rankings was Egypt. Imports from Egypt decreased by 97.7% to 24 tons.
