Türkiye sets all-time daily wind power generation record

Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources announced that electricity generation from wind reached an all-time daily high of 259,076 megawatt-hours on January 3.

Türkiye sets all-time daily wind power generation record

In a statement by the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, it was noted that a new record has been added to those broken in the field of renewable energy in the first days of 2026. In this context, it was stated that electricity generation from wind reached its highest-ever daily production level on January 3, at 259,076 megawatt-hours.

The statement emphasized that total electricity generation from wind power in the first week of the year showed a notable increase, underlining that approximately one quarter of the electricity generated during this period was supplied by wind power plants.

Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that Türkiye is setting new records with its increasing renewable energy installed capacity, saying, “We also started 2026 with a record. Electricity generation from wind reached the highest daily production figure on January 3, at 259,076 megawatt-hours.”

Highlighting that renewable energy investments will continue with determination, Bayraktar said, “Renewable energy plays a strategic role in achieving our goal of a Fully Energy-Independent Türkiye. In 2026, we aim to hold YEKA tenders with a capacity of at least 2,000 megawatts. With new investments on land and at sea in the coming period, we will continue to convert our potential into energy.”

Touching upon efforts related to offshore wind energy, Bayraktar noted that they are working on a mechanism similar to the YEKA model, sharing the information that “we plan to bring 5,000 megawatts of offshore wind capacity online by 2035.”

Türkiye’s total installed electricity capacity rose to 121,782 megawatts as of the end of November last year. Within total installed capacity, the share of solar energy reached 20.3% with 24,669 megawatts, while the share of wind energy reached 11.9% with 14,546 megawatts. Thus, nearly one third of Türkiye’s total installed electricity capacity consists of solar and wind energy.
