Türkiye increases steel exports in January–July 2026

Despite fluctuations in global demand, the Turkish steel industry managed to maintain growth in exports during the first seven months of the year. While exports to some traditional markets declined, emerging destinations stood out with strong growth.

Türkiye increases steel exports in January–July 2026

According to data obtained by SteelRadar from the Turkish Steel Exporters' Association (ÇİB), Türkiye's steel exports increased by 1.6% to 11.368 million mt in the first seven months of 2026. The data for the period showed diverging trends across both product groups and export markets. While Türkiye maintained growth in steel exports during the January–July period, export performance varied across its key markets. Exports to Romania and Italy declined, while shipments to the UK, Egypt, Ukraine, and the US recorded increases.

Long products lead export growth

Construction steel, one of the main export products of the Turkish steel industry, reached 2.478 million mt during the January–July period, remaining the country's largest export product group. Construction steel exports increased by 7.4% compared to the same period last year.

Within the long products segment, wire rod exports rose by 10.3% to 624,000 mt, while non-alloy billet exports increased by 18.4% to 349,000 mt. This performance indicated that export demand for long products remained relatively strong.

In contrast to other long products, section exports declined by 10.9% to 974,000 mt.

Weak performance in flat products

The flat steel segment showed a weaker performance during the period. Türkiye's hot rolled flat products exports fell by 14.7% to 1.952 million mt.

On the other hand, coated flat products stood out as one of the better-performing products in the segment, with exports increasing by 8.8% to 932,000 mt.

Meanwhile, alloy flat products exports declined sharply by 46.1% to 216,000 mt.

Pipe exports declined

Welded pipe, one of Türkiye's key steel export products, also recorded a decline during the first seven months of the year. Welded pipe exports decreased by 5.3% to 1.079 million mt.

In contrast, construction components exports performed positively, rising by 3.3% during the same period.

Export markets shift

Türkiye's steel export performance also showed mixed trends across destination countries. Exports to Romania, one of the country's largest export markets, fell by 13.1% to 962,000 mt, while exports to Italy declined by 5.1% to 795,000 mt.

On the other hand, several markets posted strong growth. Steel exports to the UK surged by 90.1% to 700,000 mt, marking one of the most notable increases during the period.

Ukraine, Yemen, Egypt, and the US were also among the destinations where Türkiye's steel exports increased. In contrast, exports to Spain and Morocco declined during the January–July period.
