PASID Chairman Arslan Küçükemre, in a statement following the signing ceremony, emphasized that the agreement reached with Bahru Stainless represents an important development for the industry, noting that Malaysia has become a new supply gateway for Turkish stainless steel producers. Küçükemre stated, “Bahru Stainless has become an alternative producer for our sector. This will allow our companies to source the products they need from a different supplier.”He also reminded that the agreement does not create any formal obligations regarding purchases, sales, deliveries, or supply. Nevertheless, Küçükemre highlighted that the agreement establishes a strong foundation for cooperation based on goodwill and will contribute to strengthening relations between industrialists of the two countries.
Under the agreement, PASID will provide Bahru Stainless with facilitation and support services for the promotion of stainless steel products in Türkiye, market access, and supply processes. The initiative aims to enable Turkish industrialists to reach alternative supply channels, increase market diversity, and enhance competitiveness in the sector.
The agreement was implemented as part of steps taken during the official visit of the Malaysian Prime Minister to Türkiye on January 6–8. During the visit, various agreements were signed between Türkiye and Malaysia to promote technology transfer, investment cooperation, and trade development, while the official target of increasing bilateral trade volume from USD 5 billion to USD 10 billion was announced. In this process, mutual cooperation agreements were also signed between Türk Eximbank and Malaysia Exim Bank, creating new partnership opportunities in the field of financing.
Following the official meetings, the Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) expressed its interest in cooperating with Turkish companies, particularly industrialists operating in the stainless steel sector. In line with this, PASID was contacted, and a goodwill agreement was signed to strengthen commercial relations between the two countries in the field of stainless steel. The agreement was signed by PASID Chairman Arslan Küçükemre and Bahru Stainless CEO Wei Beoh Tan, witnessed by Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry Dato Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Malaysia Exim Bank CEO Datuk Nurbayu Kasım Chang, and Türk Eximbank CEO Ali Güney.
PASID Chairman Arslan Küçükemre, commenting on the contributions of the agreement to the sector, stated that it also holds strategic importance for strengthening Turkey–Malaysia trade relations. Küçükemre emphasized that the agreement provides new supply and procurement channels for PASID members while increasing the association’s visibility internationally, saying, “This signing represents a valuable and strategic step for our industry. We aim to contribute to the development of relations between industrialists of both countries, the growth of trade, and the deepening of cooperation in the stainless steel sector.”
This comprehensive cooperation initiative not only strengthens Türkiye’s position in the Asian stainless steel supply market but also adds a new alternative to the sector’s long-term supply strategies.
