Turkish automotive sector aims to increase its effectiveness in Latin America

According to the statement made by OİB, the "Argentina-Chile Automotive Sectoral Trade Delegation" program was held under the coordination of the Ministry of Trade. 21 business people from 17 Turkish automotive companies participated in the delegation and held bilateral meetings with 60 buyers from Argentina and Chile.

Within the scope of the program, OIB Board Members Murat Senir and Gökhan Tunçdöken attended receptions hosted by Süleyman Ömür Budak, Ambassador of Turkey to Buenos Aires, and Gülcan Akoğuz, Ambassador of Turkey to Santiago, and exchanged views to improve trade relations between the countries.

The delegation visited Argentine and Chilean importers, wholesalers and facilities and opened the doors to important collaborations as a result of bilateral meetings.

OIB President Baran Çelik stated that Turkey ranks 18th in Argentina's automotive imports.

Stating that the automotive industry's exports to Argentina in 2021 exceeded 34 million dollars with an increase of 74 percent, Çelik said, "Last year, we exported 38.5 million dollars with an increase of 13.2 percent. Brazil's share in Argentina's automotive imports is around 50. In addition to Brazil, China, Thailand, Japan, Mexico and Germany also play an important role in Argentina's imports. We are planning to increase our exports to this country regularly."

Emphasizing that Chile, which has a Free Trade Agreement with Turkey, is included in the Far Countries Strategy determined by the Ministry of Trade, Çelik noted the following:

"The automotive imports of Chile, which has approximately 110 billion dollars of imports, is approximately 12 billion dollars. Our exports to Chile have gained an upward momentum as in Argentina. In 2021, we exported 98 million dollars to the country, with an increase of 140 percent, and last year we exported 107.2 million dollars with a growth of 9.3 percent. We consider Latin American countries important, we continue to increase our activities here and strengthen our communication. We aim to grow regularly in this market by stabilizing our efforts, which have been positively reflected in our export figures in the last 2 years."
