While the final product consumption increased by 0.5 percent on an annual basis to 2.6 million tons in June, it decreased to 17 million tons with a decrease of 3.4 percent as of the first 6 months of the year.

Exports of steel products decreased to 1.5 million tons in June with a decrease of 17.9 percent on amount compared to the same month of the previous year, and reached 1.6 billion dollars with an increase of 4.7 percent on value basis.
In the January-June period of this year, exports decreased by 8.1 percent to 8.5 million tons in terms of quantity compared to the same period of the previous year, and reached 8.3 billion dollars with an increase of 25 percent in terms of value.
In June, imports amounted to 1.3 million tons with an annual increase of 9.6 percent in quantity and 1.5 billion dollars with an increase of 29.1 percent in value.
In the first 6-month period, imports amounted to 7.7 million tons with a decrease of 5.9 percent on amount, and 8.5 billion dollars with an increase of 28 percent on value basis.
While the ratio of exports to imports was 100.5 percent in the first half of 2021, it decreased to 97.9 percent in the same period of 2022.

"DIR application should be reviewed quickly"
TÇÜD Secretary General Veysel Yayan said that Turkey's steel production, which entered a downward trend in the first quarter of this year, is more modest than the decline in the world average.
Stating that the contraction in production gained momentum in the second quarter, Yayan said that as of the first half of the year, the gap between world steel production and Turkey's production narrowed considerably.
On the other hand, Yayan stated that due to both the protectionist approaches and the shrinking trend in foreign demand, a serious decline was observed in the exports of steel products, 8 percent in the first half of the year and 17.9 percent in June.
Noting that Russian producers could not find buyers in international markets after the sanctions, Yayan said that the authorities in this country made statements that they would subsidize steel exports, and continued as follows:
"In addition, with the taxation of 100 euros per ton for countries that do not exceed the quota in scrap exports, and 290 euros per ton for countries that exceed the quota, Russian steel producers are provided with the opportunity to supply cheap scrap. has resulted.
Billet imports from Russia, which are almost at scrap prices, increased by 5 times in the second quarter compared to the first quarter of the year, negatively affecting our steel industry. In Turkey, some plants have stopped their production, while others have begun to reduce the number of shifts. In light of these developments, controlling the increase in billet imports from Russia has become an important problem for our steel industry."
Yayan stated that the investigation initiated by the Ministry of Commerce upon the application of TÇÜD has been completed.
Yayan, with the notification published in the Official Gazette dated July 7, 2022, the decision regarding the application of dumping margins varying between 7 percent and 12,8 percent for hot rolled flat steel products originating from the European Union (EU) and South Korea, Turkey's protectionism in the world. He said that it is considered as a positive development in terms of showing sensitivity to dumped imports for its own domestic market at a time when the trends in the economy are increasing.
