According to data compiled by SteelRadar from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), Türkiye's scrap imports in August fell from 1,962,990 tons in the same month of the previous year to 1,392,651 tons, a decline of 29.1%.
Compared to the previous month, July, imports decreased by 5.4%.
Total scrap imports for the January–August period fell by 9.6%, from 13,485,656 tons to 12,195,948 tons.
In the month in question, Türkiye imported the most scrap from the United States. Imports from the U.S. fell 33.6% year-on-year to 312,951 tons, and over the first eight months of the year, they declined by 21.1% to 2,315,273 tons.
In the ranking of top scrap import sources in August, the Netherlands came second, with imports from the country decreasing by 40.8%. The Netherlands was followed by the United Kingdom with a 78.3% increase and Belgium with a 30.3% rise.
