Tosyalı becomes Türkiye's largest steel producer and Europe's 3rd largest

According to the data announced by the World Steel Association (WSA), Tosyalı climbed 21 places to 46th in the world ranking in 2024 compared to the previous year and became one of the top 3 fastest growing steel producers in the world with a 54.3% increase in production.

Tosyalı becomes Türkiye's largest steel producer and Europe's 3rd largest

With this performance, Tosyalı not only became Türkiye's largest steel producer, but also crossed an important threshold for the sector by becoming one of the 50 largest steel producers in the world. This achievement stands out as a concrete indicator of the company's sustainable growth strategy. In addition to becoming the largest steel producer in Türkiye, Tosyalı also became the 3rd largest steel producer in Europe.

Tosyalı, Türkiye's global steel producer, continues its global growth with nearly 50 facilities on 3 continents, 15 million tons of liquid steel production capacity and approximately 15 thousand employees.

Tosyalı, which draws attention with its investments in high value-added qualified steel production by determining sustainability as the main agenda item, is rapidly climbing the steps in world steel production with its production complexes in different geographies of the world, green steel products produced with advanced technology, R&D and innovation, strong equity resources and highly competent employees.

In 2024, a year in which the world's steel producers had a very difficult time due to volatile global conditions, Tosyalı added a new one to its achievements by showing a very rapid ascent in the world rankings.  According to the data announced by the World Steel Association, Tosyalı moved up 21 places compared to the previous year to 46th place in the world ranking with 9.12 million tons of liquid steel production in 2024. With a 54.3% increase in production, Tosyalı became one of the top 3 fastest growing steel producers in the world. Today, Tosyalı has not only become the largest steel producer in Türkiye, but also the 3rd largest steel producer in Europe, consolidating its strong position in the global arena. At the same time, it has crossed an important threshold for the sector by becoming one of the world's 50 largest steel producers.

Tosyalı Holding Chairman Fuat Tosyalı: “Our goal is to become one of the world's top 20 steel producers”

Stating that Tosyalı's global success is based on well-planned strategic investments and qualified steel production, Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of Tosyalı Holding, stated: "As Tosyalı, we have identified sustainability, efficiency and economies of scale as three important priorities. With this strategy, we continue to grow in a healthy and stable manner with eco-efficiency-oriented investments in Türkiye and in different geographies around the world. We completed the Tosyalı Demir Çelik İskenderun Plant, the largest industrial investment of our country in recent years, despite the major earthquake disaster and started production in 2023. This plant eliminated Türkiye's 4 million tons of flat steel imports and started to make a significant contribution to value-added steel exports. We are taking firm steps towards becoming one of the most important and strategic integrated iron and steel production centers not only in the Mediterranean basin and Africa, but also in the world with our 4th stage investments in our 5-stage Tosyalı Algérie production complex, which is one of the driving forces of our achievements as a global steel company to date.We have also started investments in Libya as a strategic step in Africa. With our investments in Türkiye, Algeria, Spain and Libya, we are strengthening our position as a global steel producer day by day. As Tosyalı, our total investment amount in the last 5 years is over USD 6 billion and the majority of these are sustainability-oriented investments. Our investments in R&D, advanced technology, circular production, clean energy sources such as solar and hydrogen continue uninterruptedly. At the same time, we are focusing on efficiency, which is also one of the main issues of sustainability, and we tend to produce more by consuming fewer resources. We continue to achieve sustainable growth thanks to our completely independent, yet dynamic and efficient structure that analyzes everything from the mine to the final product within the Tosyalı ecosystem. Thus, we continue our rapid yet steady rise in the world rankings. We increased our global crude steel production by 110% between 2020 and 2024. As a result, we have become the largest steel producer in Türkiye and the third largest in Europe, ranking among the top 50 companies. Among the top 50 companies, we are the only company in the world ranking that rises continuously every year. Our continuous and sustainable growth continues and we have taken a very strong step to move to the top league on a global scale with our production figure. With the start of production of our ongoing investments in the next 4-5 years, we will take firm steps towards our goal of becoming one of the 20 largest steel companies in the world."

Nearly 50% of its self-consumption will come from SPP

Tosyalı continues to grow continuously and sustainably every year, making an investment plan of USD 1.5-2 billion, all of which is directed towards sustainability-oriented projects. In this context, the company continues to invest in clean energy sources such as solar and hydrogen. Tosyalı recently took the first step in Osmaniye for one of the world's largest self-consumption SPP projects with a capacity of 1.2 GW. The company produces its own solar panels in Osmaniye. Starting with the first project, Tosyalı will install these panels at SPP sites in eight different provinces, thus providing nearly 50% of its self-consumption from SPP. In addition to hydrogen-compatible DRI plants, the company also continues its research and development activities on different technologies for the use of hydrogen in production. Tosyalı is one of the first companies in its sector to report to the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism with its actual values within the scope of the EU Green Deal and to share these low values with its customers. Tosyalı realizes almost 50% less carbon emissions than its competitors and accepted values in product-based emissions in products that it produces only with its own raw materials from end to end. As a reflection of all of its sustainability-oriented investments, the company has also signed another pioneering work in the world by offering the Tosyalı V-Green brand, which consists of certified green steel products, to its customers.
