Tosyali Algeria achieved global record in DRI output with its second module

Tosyalı Algerie has set a new world record in annual direct reduced iron (DRI) production with a single direct reduction (DR) module.

Tosyali Algeria achieved global record in DRI output with its second module

Tosyalı Algeria’s second DRI module achieved a production volume of 2.43 million tons in 2025, setting a new global benchmark in its first year of operation.

In addition to this achievement, Tosyalı Algeria’s first DRI module also delivered strong performance in 2025, ranking third worldwide in annual DRI production. This once again demonstrated Tosyalı’s leadership and scale in direct reduced iron production.

The record-breaking second module was supplied by Midrex Technologies, Inc. and consortium partner Paul Wurth (SMS Group). The plant operates with MIDREX® technology, capable of producing both Hot Direct Reduced Iron (HDRI) and Cold Direct Reduced Iron (CDRI), providing high operational flexibility and efficiency.

Commenting on the record, Fuat Tosyalı, Chairman of Tosyalı Holding, stated that the company continues to invest decisively in low-carbon DRI projects in Algeria. He emphasized that since 2020, the Tosyalı Algeria facility has set a world DRI production record every year.

Fuat Tosyalı also noted that, alongside the record achieved by the second module in 2025, the first DRI module’s third-place global ranking confirms the scale and consistency of Tosyalı’s twin DRI strategy. With the commissioning of the second DRI plant last year, Tosyalı Algeria has become one of the world’s largest twin DRI facilities.

The statement also highlighted that the second DRI plant was designed with advanced technology, enabling operation with natural gas and, with minor modifications, 100% hydrogen, making it the first commercial-scale DRI facility in the world to enter production with this capability. This feature represents a significant step toward green steel production.

Fuat Tosyalı further noted that while some European companies have recently made decisions to invest in flexible DRI technologies, Tosyalı is the first company to make this decision, complete the investment, and begin production. The production record achieved with the new DRI plant demonstrates the success of the company’s sustainability-, efficiency-, and scale-focused investment strategy.

With this achievement, Tosyalı stated that it has further strengthened its position as a global green steel producer and will continue its investments in line with its low-carbon production goals.
