Japanese steelmaker Tokyo Steel has signed an agreement with Primetals Technologies to upgrade the hot-dip galvanizing line at its Okayama plant. As part of the investment, the existing line will be converted to process both cold-rolled and hot-dip galvanized coils.
The renovation project includes the addition of induction heating technology to the front section of the line and increased cooling capacity in the final section. This will increase the flexibility of the production line and enable it to process different product types efficiently.
With this investment, Tokyo Steel aims to meet the growing demand for low carbon steel products and increase its competitiveness in the cold rolled products market. After the completion of the project, the annual production capacity of the plant will be approximately 250 thousand tons.
The investment is planned to be completed and start production in early 2027.
