The line, which entered the commissioning process with trial castings, stands out as one of the company's largest modernization projects to date.
The SGA 4 line is not only equipped with advanced technology, but also delivers significant improvements in shape accuracy and surface quality, the company noted in a statement. Developed with the aim of high precision, flexible and efficient slab production, the new line meets the latest standards in terms of automation and casting technology.
The successful commissioning of the new line is considered an important step towards the full operation of the factory complex, which will be gradually completed in the coming weeks. The new complex consists of a fully renovated No. 4 hot rolling mill with a fully automated slab storage area, a pre-treatment line and two new furnaces with walking beams.
The SGA 4 line will replace the existing cast rolling line and will be integrated with hot rolling unit No. 4. Thyssenkrupp Steel describes this large-scale investment in Bruckhausen as one of the central projects of the company's “20-30 Strategy”.
With the project, the company aims to focus on high value-added and profitable product groups by making production processes at the Duisburg site more flexible and efficient. Thyssenkrupp Steel sees this move as part of its vision to become one of the pioneers of technological transformation in the European steel industry.
