The volume of cargo and containers transported in China's ports increased in 2023

According to the data of the China's Ministry of Transport, the amount of containers transported in the country's ports in the January-November period was 280 million TEU, and the amount of cargo carried was 15.51 billion tons.

The number of unit containers transported increased by 4.9 percent and the amount of cargo load increased by 8.4 percent compared to the same period in 2022.

During the said period, cargo transportation related to foreign trade also increased by 9.6 percent.

The increases were due to the effect of the low base caused by the measures implemented in 2022 due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

Quarantine measures implemented in China in 2022 due to the Covid-19 epidemic in cities such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Ningbo, Xinjiang, Tianjin, Qingdao and Dalian, which host the country's major ports, caused disruptions in cargo transportation.
