According to data from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the U.S.'s weekly crude steel production reached 1,782,000 net tons in the week ending August 2, 2025. The capacity utilization rate was measured at 78.7% during this period. In the same week last year, production was 1,705,000 net tons, and the capacity utilization rate was 76.8%. Thus, production increased by 4.5% y/y.
Production in the week in question increased by 0.3% compared to the previous week ending July 26, 2025. In the week ending July 26, production was 1,777,000 net tons, and the capacity utilization rate was 78.4%.
As of August 2, 2025, the adjusted total crude steel production since the beginning of the year reached 52,346,000 net tons. The capacity utilization rate for this period was recorded at 76.4%. In the same period last year, production was 51 million 766 thousand net tons, and the capacity utilization rate was 76.2%. Thus, production in the first seven months of the year increased by 1.1% compared to the same period last year.
When examining the regional distribution of production, 123 thousand net tons were produced in the Northeast region, 561 thousand net tons in the Great Lakes region, 234 thousand net tons in the Midwest, 791 thousand net tons in the South, and 73 thousand net tons in the West. Total production amounted to 1 million 782 thousand net tons.
