In June 2022, the U.S. government increased the column 2 tax rate to 35% on some Russian metal products. With the new decision, it will increase the duties on steel and aluminum imports from Russia from 35% to 70% as of 1st April, 2023.
The U.S. government's goal is to put pressure on Russia's economy to make the products that Russia exports to the U.S. market less competitive.
